Getting a new performing arts center for Orlando is no easy feat. As a matter of fact for the last 10 years this idea has barely made it out of the talking stage, and Mayor Buddy Dyer might just be the one who pushes this into reality.
The mayor has announced the start of a real and meaningful planning effort to lay the groundwork for the funding and building of what seemed to be a pipe dream.
And while many may question the priority of a performing arts center, the mayor has always seen it, as not only a piece of the downtown landscape, but as very good for the business of bringing business to Orlando.
Our area has been brewing truly world class performing arts and this development is vital to our growth as world class city. The arts is one of the factors that come into play when individuals and businesses consider relocating.
And as has been a very impressive pattern, the mayor and Chairman Crotty are in tune and on board together.
This is a project that Mayor Dyer has repeatedly made a priority, and we are impressed with his sticking to his commitments. It's a long road ahead, and we hope that the momentum which the mayor has given the project continues.
For now it's a good day for the city, for the country, and a great day for our community. The promise of music and drama and dance. And the beauty which we'll pass on to our children is something to savor, treasure and nurture.
Let's make it happen.
