OPAC Holds General Public Community Forum

June 20, 2005

ORLANDO, Fla…The Orlando Performing Arts Center (OPAC), a nonprofit corporation, will hold a General Public Community Forum in an effort to garner community support and input for a regional performing arts center. The forum will be held on Tuesday, June 21, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Orlando Repertory Theatre located in Loch Haven Park. The open forum will be facilitated by WKMG Local 6 Anchor Lauren Rowe. This is the third in a series of continuous forums.

OPAC has been charged by the City of Orlando to outline a recommendation to build a
destination that elevates the arts, provides the best arts education, generates urban renewal, and most importantly, is programmed to be fiscally responsible in construction and operations.

“These forums are designed to gather feedback from the citizens of Central Florida,” stated OPAC President and Chairman Jim Pugh. “We want this performing arts center to be for everyone, so community input is crucial.”

The Orlando Performing Arts Center has begun a community engagement process to build support for a regional performing arts facility, to educate various constituents, and obtain feedback on what a center could provide for the community. Through a series of community forums and surveys, constituents from the arts community, arts educators, ethnic groups, business/civic groups and the general public will be engaged in the process. OPAC will continue to meet and survey the community through its community forum process.
