Orlando Performing Arts Center Presents Feasibility Plan to Orange County Commission

August 22, 2006

ORLANDO, Fla - Today, the Orlando Performing Arts Center (OPAC), a nonprofit corporation, presented its feasibility plan for a new performing arts center to the Orange County Board of County Commissioners. OPAC plans to construct a multi-faceted performing arts complex in downtown Orlando that includes multiple theaters, educational facilities, open public spaces, retail, commercial and residential development.

The presentation outlined the findings and recommendations from architectural, planning, operations, development, and fundraising consultants hired by OPAC regarding what the arts center should be, how much it will cost, and how it will be funded.

"We are excited to have reached this stage of the initiative," stated OPAC President and Chairman Jim Pugh. "I believe that we have presented the Board of County Commissioners a comprehensive and achievable plan for a new performing arts center. Now it is up to them to determine the future of downtown Orlando and the Central Florida region for years to come."

The Orange County Board of County Commissioners is expected to make a determination on county public funding for all of the proposed community venues, including the performing arts center, in early fall.

The Orlando Performing Arts Center, a 501(C)3 nonprofit corporation, is responsible for determining the feasibility of the arts center complex. The vision of OPAC is to build a destination that elevates the arts, provides the best arts education, generates urban renewal, and most importantly, is programmed to be fiscally responsible in construction and operations.
