Orlando, Fla., October 9, 2008– As a part of Dr. P. Phillips Orlando Performing Arts Center’s commitment to the local community, its project team and community partners came together to raise close to $7,000 to support a back to school/stay in school program, “Sneakers for Success.” Together, 20 local businesses gave away almost 500 pairs of sneakers to ensure some local students started off the school year on a positive footing. Last Saturday, parents and children from the following neighborhoods and organizations learned about the performing arts center project and took home a new pair of shoes:
• Parramore Kidz Zone
• Holden Heights Front Porch
• Bridge to Independence
• Dr. J.B. Callahan Center
• John Jackson Center
Additional monies raised will be used to purchase educational tools and school supplies for each community organization involved in the program.
