Dr. Phillips Center Announces Call for Student Entries for Construction Fence Design Project
May 24, 2010
In preparation for its groundbreaking this fall, the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts has issued a call for entries to student artists throughout Central Florida. Students, grades three through 12, are encouraged to submit high-resolution electronic photos of drawings, paintings, collages or sculptures that reflect their artistic interpretation of the performing arts to adorn the project’s construction fence. Estimated at more than 20,000 square feet in length, the artwork will be displayed on the fence for the duration of construction.
“The goal of the construction fence design project is to transform an everyday chain link fence into a colorful display of the community’s youth art and cultural interpretations,” said President Kathy Ramsberger. “The vibrant artwork on the fence will symbolize the project’s mission to embrace Central Florida’s multi-cultural community and enhance arts education opportunities.”
Artwork should be submitted to info@drphillipscenter.org by June 25, 2010, and include the student’s name, grade, contact information and school name.
The Dr. Phillips Center will impact approximately 90,000-110,000 students each year upon opening its doors with enhanced arts education programs, including academies for dance, music and theater, training seminars, school day performances and educator workshops. .
The Dr. Phillips Center includes the 2,700±seat Disney theater, 1,700±seat multiform theater, 300±seat community theater, banquet space and public performance plaza that can accommodate up to 3,000 people.
