News & Events That Shape the Dr. P. Phillips Orlando Performing Arts Center

From The DPAC Team

The team is pleased to announce specific plans for how the performing arts center will move forward

and confirm a spring 2010 groundbreaking for Orlando's extensively planned and much-awaited new performing arts center. Through conversations with donors, board members, arts groups and community leaders, as well as an official vote from the board of directors, the project will be best brought to life through a staged construction schedule, starting with the 2,700± seat theater and the 300± seat theater in 2010.

This is an unprecedented achievement in the history of Central Florida and an extraordinary accomplishment in today’s economic times. The leadership of so many dedicated people has been the foundation to make this decades-long dream a reality.

As well, the generous support of Dr. Phillips Charities and all the donors has been a critical component to reaching this milestone. Key within those philanthropic gifts is Walt Disney World’s commitment to the mission. So much so that the largest of the three halls, the 2,700± seat theater, will be named by Disney.

In the coming months, design drawings for the total project, which includes the 1,700± seat theater, will be completed. Planning has also begun to identify the timeframe in which the third performance theater will be delivered to the community to complete the vision for Orlando’s world-class performing arts center.

The Dr. P. Phillips Orlando Performing Arts Center is significant to the cultural growth of Central Florida. There is nothing but good news to share about the commitment of the donors, leadership and community. Breaking ground next year will demonstrate significant progress toward fulfilling this vision.
