From The Team

The team is pleased to announce specific plans for how the performing arts center will move forward

and confirm a spring 2010 groundbreaking for Orlando's extensively planned and much-awaited new performing arts center. Through conversations with donors, board members, arts groups and community leaders, as well as an official vote from the board of directors, the project will be best brought to life through a staged construction schedule, starting with the 2,700± seat theater and the 300± seat theater in 2010. Aqui Canta Puerto Rico performs.

The performing arts center and Hines collaborated with local performing artists to present the Summer Cultural Concert Series. Performances featured Lane & Company, a community-based ensemble of voices specializing in sacred music and Negro spirituals, and Latin Gospel Core, featuring Jill Colindres Recio, Saxophonist Edeimer Johnson, Nahomy Santana and Éttienne Montalvo with Aqui Canta Puerto Rico.

Recently, the community venue partners came together to participate in the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Florida Share-A-Meal program. The Ronald McDonald House serves as a home-away-from-home for families with children receiving medical treatment in the Orlando area.

In November, the performing arts center hosted an evening at the theater. Aligned with the project’s commitment to the Central Florida community and mission of creating a premier center for arts education, Hines, as well as community partners Balfour Beatty Construction, Orlando Magic Youth Foundation, Tupperware Brands Foundation and Universal Orlando Foundation, sponsored over 40 high school students, teachers and parents to attend the touring show of the acclaimed musical The Color Purple at the Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre.

Interior Renderings Unveiled

The four Interior Renderings
Artist renderings of the three theaters.

The performing arts center was re-launched with the exciting unveiling of the interior renderings of the three theaters. Design architect Barton Myers' vision was to design and create unique environments for each theater.

Progress

Basem Ghneim
Basem Ghneim

Basem Ghneim has joined the performing arts center team as vice president of construction. He will be responsible for representing the organization in the oversight of design and construction. Basem's background includes program management with extensive knowledge in pre-construction phase services, architect/engineer and contractor selection, contract negotiations, project delivery methodologies, cost and schedule control, bid packaging, contract administration and project closeout. His major project experience includes serving as project manager on the Orange County Convention Center Phase V Expansion Project and overseeing multiple developments for three different school districts in Florida.

Board of Directors

The performing arts center board of directors has added three new members. Welcome Cheryl Henry, Chuck Steinmetz and Bryce West.

Cheryl Henry is vice chair of the Mayor's Citizens Oversight Committee for the City of Orlando as well as vice president of new business and corporate affairs for Ruth's Hospitality Group, Inc. Chuck Steinmetz has been a leader in the local pest control industry for over 30 years. He and his wife Lynn are donors to the performing arts center as well as advocates of the arts. New to Orlando from Chicago, Bryce West has been a performing arts supporter through volunteerism, subscriptions and donations throughout his life. He is also on the board of the Orlando Philharmonic.
