ABOUT THE ARTISTS
After bewitching Judson’s Live last year, this father-daughter ensemble returns with two evenings of Brazilian jazz as well as original songs from their new album Paradise. In 2020, Ella & The Bossa Beat released their first album, My Remedy, and in 2022, their second album, In the Moment, hit #8 on the national top 30 Latin charts, and #15 on the national top 50 jazz album charts. The pair has received recognition from esteemed jazz publications like JAZZIZ and local magazines such as Orlando Weekly, as well.
Magrus Borges is a Grammy-nominated drummer, percussionist, composer and producer from Belem-Para, Brazil. He has played and recorded with many international artists such as Astrud Gilberto, Bebel Gilberto (Grammy-nominated for her album Agora), Shakira, Grace Jones, Tania Maria, Larry Coryell, Caetano Veloso, Luis Melodia, Johnny Alf (one of the fathers of Bossa Nova), among many others. He has recorded six original albums, produced for various artists and is a member of the Recording Academy. Called “the new rising star of the jazz generation,” Ella Borges was born in Miami and raised in Brazil. She sings in Portuguese, Spanish, English and French, in addition to playing piano and guitar, writing, composing and producing. She presents a unique style with her soulful voice, her scatting described as “classic American jazz meets Brazil.” In 2020, she was awarded The Focus Brazil Award for Best Female Singer in Orlando. She is a graduate of Stetson University with a degree in International Business and Music, a member of the Recording Academy and studies under the mentorship of NYC jazz pianist Garry Dial.
Ella & The Bossa Beat has released numerous singles and collaborated with other international artists such as Toco under the Italian label Schema Records. They have played legendary jazz venues, festivals and private events, and have a residency at Universal Studios in Orlando. In 2024, they started the year with their Brazil Tour in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo playing at the Blue Note.
