Jazz Common Ground

July 16, 2025 | Judson's Live

Join us as the next generation of jazz returns to Judson’s Live as they lead audiences on a groove-infusing mission to unite past, present and future.

Jazz Common Ground is the sonic venture of brothers Jack and Jacob Kaiser, the young musicians playing an integral part in the viral jazz renaissance of the post-internet age.

In this special performance, they’ll sync up with rising talent and Judson’s regulars alike, with Gerald Law II on drums and Will Patrick on guitar as we give them free reign to craft the future of the genre right here. Be there as they present new takes on classic riffs, plus original genre-bending compositions that pull from R&B, blues, funk and soul. Like all great jazz moments, set lists will be predictably unpredictable, but expect reimagined spins on songs by artists like Usher, Michael Jackson, Luther Vandross and more. Because sometimes, building on tradition means dismantling a few boundaries.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Jack Kaiser (Bass)
Jack Kaiser is breaking down the strict boundaries that separate musical genres. Drawing from both classical and established jazz idioms, the 19-year-old singer and composer presents a captivating, blended sound that has clear influences from the worlds of R&B, blues and soul while maintaining some of the intricacy present in 21st-century Western-classical music. He currently studies composition at the New School in New York City.

Jacob Kaiser (Piano, Vocals)
A recent graduate from Phillips Academy Andover, Jacob Kaiser serves up grooving piano and vocals using stylistic influences from Motown, modern jazz artists and more. His energy and originality give Jazz Common Ground a high-contrast range of musical dexterity that transcends the idea of genres. While focused on piano and singing, he also composes and arranges his own music.

Will Patrick (Guitar)
“Fiery, soulful and eclectic” New York-based guitarist Will Patrick combines R&B, jazz, funk, rock, hip-hop and soul to develop a truly distinctive voice. While still in his teens, he performed at venues like the Blue Note New York, Blue Note Tokyo and Java Jazz Festival in Indonesia, drawing inspiration from artists Butcher Brown, Roy Hargrove, Jimi Hendrix and D’Angelo. He’s performed with the likes of Larry Coryell, Kirk Whalum, Billy Kilson, Bob James and Patti Austin, and has released several projects under his independent label, The Radical Collective.

Gerald Law II (Drums)
Drummer, composer and bandleader Gerald Law II has built a reputation as the go-to drummer for jazz and R&B artists in Central Florida. If you’ve seen him play, you know why he’s affectionately called “the smiling drummer.” From his drum throne, Law drives the rhythm and elevates the performance of everyone around him. Whether simmering with soulful energy or exploding in creative improvisation, he brings audiences to incredible heights with music that always grooves.
