La Bohème
La Bohème
Opera Orlando kicks off its 10th Anniversary Season with Puccini’s beloved masterpiece La Bohème in a brand new production conceived and directed by the Company’s artistic director Grant Preisser. This passionate, timeless, and indelible story of love among young artists, stands as the world’s most popular opera with soaring melodies and passion that will leave you searching for a kleenex.
A truly star-studded cast takes the stage as Puccini’s lovesick young bohemians in this original production that transports the action from Paris, France to the “Paris of the far east,” Shanghai during the 1920s with soprano Bizhou Chang as Mimi, tenor Yi Li as Rodolfo, baritone Seunghyeon Baek as Marcello, and mezzo soprano Ruoxi Bian as Musetta. Conductor Allan R. Scott makes his company debut leading the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra in the pit for this production which will also feature the Opera Orlando Chorus and Youth Company, original sets, and original costumes.
Enjoy Puccini’s glorious music at the world-renowned Steinmetz Hall and see the opera that has inspired multiple generations over its 130 year existence while also serving as the inspiration for the hit Broadway musical Rent. La Bohème is the definitive depiction of the joys and sorrows of love and loss while also revealing the deep emotional significance hidden in the trivial things—a bonnet, an old overcoat, a chance meeting with a neighbor—that make up our everyday lives.
