CFHLA Foundation Board of Directors Presents $250,000 to the Dr. Phillips Center at Annual Membership Luncheon
An additional challenge gift to the Arts for Every Life Scholarship Fund will also be presented
April 30, 2015– Orlando, FL – The Central Florida Hotel & Lodging Association Foundation Board of Directors approved two grants for the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts that will be presented during today’s CFHLA Membership Luncheon. The first grant is a capital contribution of $250,000 over multiple years. As a result of the grant the Tier 2 Rotunda bar at the Dr. Phillips Center will now be the CFHLA Hospitality Coffee Bar. The second grant, a one-time $25,000 donation, is a challenge gift for the Arts for Every Life Scholarship fund. The gift will begin an initiative to increase scholarships for children of families in the hospitality industry, enabling them to participate in performing arts classes and camps.
“With the record-breaking number of visitors this year, we anticipate more and more people will participate in all that Central Florida has to offer, including Orlando’s newest landmark destination,” said Jim Pugh, chairman of the board of the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. “We’re grateful for the support of the tourism industry and CFHLA.”
“It is important for us to serve not only the visitors who come to Central Florida, but also the people who serve our guests,” said Rich Maladecki, president and CEO of Central Florida Hotel and Lodging Association. “Sixty percent of all people that travel to Florida visit Orlando with an interest in culture. These two grants will enhance the performing arts center and enhance the lives of those who work in our hotel and lodging industry.”
