Student Spotlight:

Student Spotlight: Sarah Valery

“My favorite aspect of the performing arts must be the family we all become at the end,” 12-year-old Sarah Valery said. “It’s so beautiful how it just all builds up from being somewhat 'strangers' at first, to being a family...”

Since 2018, she’s participated in seven programs at our AdventHealth School of the Arts—from dance classes to youth theater productions, including Schoolhouse Rock, Madagascar and now Elf the Musical, which you can see November 12–14.

“My favorite part about the Dr. Phillips Center is the positive energy everyone brings every day to rehearsal,” Sarah added about her many experiences here.

When she’s offstage and out of our building, she also represents us across the community as one of 21 company members in our Quarter Notes performance group, supported by AdventHealth. As part of The Quarter Notes, she even got to sing in the choir for our production of The Hunchback of Notre Dame last fall.

“The performing arts have impacted my life in many ways, from helping me express my feelings in a way people can understand or learn from, to just making me feel like I’m in a place where I belong and feel welcome,” Sarah said. “For me, I would totally love to be a part of the Dr. Phillips Center throughout my life.”

We would love that, too.
