Arts for Every Life:

The Masseys make a difference—again

A $3 million gift represents the Harvey and Carol Massey Foundation’s largest ever.

Philanthropists and community leaders Harvey and Carol Massey announced a $3 million gift toward the construction of Phase 2, which includes Steinmetz Hall and The Green Room. This is the couple’s third donation to Dr. Phillips Center, bringing their total contribution to $5 million since 2009.

To commemorate the gift, the staircase in Della Phillips Grand Lobby will be named the “Harvey and Carol Massey Family Grand Staircase.”

“When we invest in something, we believe in making a long-term commitment,” said Massey Services Chairman and CEO Harvey Massey, before a group of invited guests, Donors and arts center Board Members. “It’s important for all of us to continue to nurture what we’ve helped create.”

This $3 million gift is the single largest gift ever donated by the Harvey and Carol Massey Foundation—and it helps close a financial gap in what we need to raise to complete Phase 2.

“We couldn’t be more grateful to Harvey, Carol and the whole Massey family,” said Dr. Phillips Center President and CEO Kathy Ramsberger. “We are a stronger organization thanks to Carol’s leadership on our board and Harvey’s unwavering support over the years. Our whole community is lucky to have the Masseys.”

This exciting announcement kicks off the final leg of our capital campaign—Kathy said that, with this $3 million donation and several additional gifts received over the holidays, Dr. Phillips Center is now within $10 million of our goal.

“We are so close, and yet ‘$10 million to go’ is a very big goal,” she said. “Our intent is to use [this] announcement to reignite a real sense of excitement and purpose among our Donor base and help us reach those who’ve not yet contributed.”
