Dr. Phillips Center Hosting More Than 140 Local Heroes to Attend Broadway’s MJ The Musical

Community Giveback Initiative has welcomed nearly 1,200 special guests this season

Orlando, FL Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts announced today more than 140 veterans, active-duty military members and first responders will participate in Broadway’s MJ the Musical Community Giveback initiative Thursday, March 13, 2025.

Since 2017, the arts center has purchased more than 9,000 tickets to host guests through the Community Giveback initiative, which provides unique experiences for students, teachers, veterans, first responders and many other special guests and organizations throughout the year.

Participants are invited to enjoy a preshow reception on the Kessler Tier/Rooftop featuring Michael Jackson inspired food and refreshments, like Rock with You Ribs and Bad Baked Potatoes, followed by a performance of MJ The Musical at 7:30 p.m. inside Walt Disney Theater.

"We are honored to host our incredible first responders, veterans and active-duty military members for a well-deserved Broadway night at the arts center,” said Kathy Ramsberger, president and CEO of Dr. Phillips Center.

“This evening celebrates their service with a chance to relive the magic of one of the greatest entertainers of all time—a night of appreciation and joy.”

Additionally, as part of the arts center’s Surprise and Delight program, over 70 invitations were delivered to community members, inviting them to experience the show this week.

MJ The Musical is part of the AdventHealth Broadway in Orlando 24/25 season at the arts center. The story centers around the making of the 1992 Dangerous World Tour, offering a rare look at the creative mind and collaborative spirit that catapulted Michael Jackson to legendary status.

This community giveback is made possible by the generous support of Sysco, Jessica André and Daniel & Heather Langley.

Beneficiaries include:

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs
Active-Duty Military Members
Orange County Sheriff’s Office
