Big Laughs and Ghoulish Fun: Beetlejuice Jr. Comes Alive

An inside look at Youth Theater Productions at Dr. Phillips Center

Firsthand experience is everything—especially when students step into one of our productions. Our Youth Theater Productions at Dr. Phillips Center’s AdventHealth School of the Arts helps young artists pursue their passions at the next level, explore the many facets of the live entertainment industry and find their footing both onstage and behind the scenes.

Each semester, middle- through high school-aged students come together to bring a full-scale musical production to life. This fall, 44 cast members delivered a spectacular performance of Beetlejuice Jr.

Over the course of 10 weeks, the cast dedicated themselves to rehearsals while also learning technical elements.

“This was the first time a technical class was offered for Youth Theater Production,” said Khristy Chamberlain, Education Manager at Dr. Phillips Center. “This opportunity allowed students to gain a deeper understanding of theater through different aspects.”

Through their classes, they learned all the ropes of backstage from scenic changes to running the tech booth. Their hard work paid off, delivering a show filled with big laughs, ghoulish fun and a whole lot of heart.

Based on Tim Burton’s beloved film and the hit Broadway musical, this hilariously haunting adventure follows Lydia Deetz, played by Noah Zulkifli and Izabela Figuero, a strange and unusual teenager whose world is turned upside down when she encounters a recently deceased couple and a mischievous bio-exorcist named Beetlejuice, played by Jase Crescenti and Alec Moegling.

Performed by our talented AdventHealth School of the Arts young artists, Beetlejuice Jr. burst with energy, creativity and the kind of theatrical magic only young performers could bring.

During opening weekend, the cast gathered for a special dinner provided by Chick-fil-A, helping fuel their excitement and celebration.

Generous support for this production was provided by Chick-fil-A Greater Orlando Area.
