Julian Villela: From Quarter Notes to Broadway
For one AdventHealth School of the arts student, Broadway dreams came true way sooner than expected. Julian Villela, a talented 10-year-old actor was just cast as Young Simba in the Broadway National Tour of The Lion King!
Before channeling the legendary lion cub, Julian's journey began at the Dr. Phillips Center, where he took part in some of the many amazing programs offered to young artists. Whether performing at the Quarter Notes showcase, or singing "Where Is Love" as a participant in Take It From The Top, he loved the creative energy he shared with his peers, as well as the excitement of being on stage.
Julian credits the AdventHealth School of the Arts with helping him learn professionalism and develop his focus during auditions. Clearly, his hard work and confidence have paid off – although, as he found out, earning the role of a lifetime can still be a pretty surreal experience. When Julian learned he’d been cast as Young Simba, he remembers, "It was crazy! I couldn't believe it and it felt unreal." Now that the achievement has fully sunk in, he's most excited to don the Lion King’s iconic masks and costumes, join in the camaraderie of the cast and crew and showcase his many talents on one of the world’s most famous stages.
For Julian, Young Simba represents the role of a lifetime – one he’ll get to live-out in the coming months. His love for musical theater is apparent and he already has some sage advice for fellow young actors who share his passion. Julian encourages them to take training and auditions seriously and simply, “never give up.” We’re thrilled to celebrate Julian’s Broadway debut and we wish him the best on his opening night. Break a leg, Julian!
