That passion took a leap forward in the summer of 2023 when Charles joined Dr. Phillips Center’s student summer production of Bring It On. The experience sparked something new, further fueling his drive to grow as a musical theater artist.

This past year, Charles was a proud member of the Four Counts, a select group of high school performers who meet weekly to refine their craft. “Being part of the Four Counts has been one of the most challenging yet rewarding experiences I’ve been part of,” Charles shares. “It has pushed me to step outside my comfort zone and helped me discover a new level of confidence on stage and beyond.”

That passion and confidence shined through in his performance as Gerry Goffin in Beautiful: The Carole King Musical—earning him an Outstanding Lead Performer award at the 11th Annual Applause Awards.

What Charles loves most about Dr. Phillips Center’s AdventHealth School of the Arts is its welcoming, collaborative energy. He credits the program for helping him understand just how much dedication it takes to make a performance feel effortless from curtain to curtain.

“The Dr. Phillips Center’s AdventHealth School of the Arts has opened so many doors,” Charles explained. “The classes and productions I’ve been part of have attuned both my mind and body. They’ve helped me grow as a performer and gave me the tools I needed to succeed.”
