Student Spotlight: Summer Showcases

Student Spotlight: Summer Showcases

Summer break is always exciting at the AdventHealth School of the Arts. The venues and rehearsal spaces at Dr. Phillips Center are filled with performers of all ages excited to learn new skills and make friends along the way.

Every year, students can participate in a musical summer camp, attend an improv intensive or audition for a full production. Summer camps are especially popular because they give performers a chance to get a crash course in singing, acting and dancing. Check out a few of our favorite scenes from the summer:

The budding artists learned short scenes and musical routines, which they performed for friends and family. This year, the camps featured kid-friendly themes like The Magic of Disney and Universal’s Trolls World Tour.

Some summer camp performers may be inspired to pursue the performing arts as a career. Others left the experience with improved confidence and enhanced creativity. Above all, the students will remember having a blast, singing and dancing with their peers at Alexis and Jim Pugh Theater.

Wrapping up the summer, advanced performers had the opportunity to audition for two productions at the Dr. Phillips Center. Mean Girls was a high-energy and practically pink musical rendition of the popular movie.

Many actors in this production have been involved with the AdventHealth School of the Arts for years, participating in programs like Take It from the Top and the Four Counts or Quarter Notes performance groups. The cast delighted in representing the iconic characters and blew the lid off Steinmetz Hall with their comedic timing and musical talents.

Meanwhile, the cast of RENT featured many of the Resident Artist Interns at the Dr. Phillips Center. Over the summer, the interns spent countless hours learning from professional artists in the industry and teaching the young performers in our summer camps.

RENT acted as an all-encompassing showcase of their training and hard work. The cast members poured their hearts into the show, bringing to life the musical that has inspired thousands of drama kids to turn to a life of performance.

It was a fantastic summer, full of wildly fun performances by all. And students don’t have to wait until next summer to join in the fun. The AdventHealth School of the Arts hosts acting, music and dance classes throughout the year. Check out the available fall classes here and be sure to join before they fill up!
