THE SECOND CITY RESIDENCY

THE SECOND CITY RESIDENCY
Live. Laugh. Learn from the best.

Chicago’s legendary sketch and improv comedy theater, The Second City, comes to Dr. Phillips Center each year to perform its live show…And a funny thing happens on the way to the main event. The legendary troupe hosts two dedicated workshops at the AdventHealth School of the Arts, sharing the power of comedy to build confidence and lifelong connections.

Twenty high school students are selected to participate in the residency’s Advanced Improvisation workshops. Meanwhile, the two-hour Improv for Students on the Autism Spectrum engages teen and adult participants from our community partner, OCA to teach skills like storytelling and accessing emotions – vital tools that help work through barriers to creativity and socialization.

After learning key techniques, collaborating with their cohort and testing their comedic chops over the course of the week, Advanced Improvisation students share the stage with Second City during the troupe’s weekend performances.

This program is generously supported by Kathie and Bill Hohns.
