ABOUT THE SHOW

You’ve probably heard Sammy Figueroa’s woodblocks on the opening bars of David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance”. Or seen him playing congas on Mariah Carey’s multi-million selling “MTV Unplugged”. Or heard his inventive percussion on Miles Davis’ “Man With A Horn” or Chaka Khan’s “I’m Every Woman”. Or perhaps you’re a fan of his own spectacular multiple Grammy-nominated band, The Latin Jazz Explosion.

Now the jazz master returns to our intimate music lounge with his special tribute to the swinging, shimmering sounds of Cal Tjader’s music.

Joining Sammy is an outstanding band of virtuosos. Felipe Fournier, a dynamic showman and Latin Grammy winner brings the sounds Cal Tjader’s shimmering vibraphone. On piano the amazing Tal Cohen brings excitement to the mix while Argentine bassist Agustin Conti anchors the band. On timbales Sammy is thrilled to welcome Murph Aucamp, returning home to Florida after several years in New York with the iconic Blue Man Tubes group. And of course, paying respect to the brilliance of Mongo Santamaria from the original Tjader recordings.

Sammy Figueroa warmly invites Latin jazz lovers to join him in celebrating the music of this important musical figure. Cal Tjader’s music is like a tall, tropical drink in the middle of a Florida heat wave – cool but always swinging! Dancers are welcome!
